September 2005 • Canon IXUS 700 camera
In a very hot and humid week in September, I explored the fascinating megacity of Tokyo. On this trip I was capturing my time on video via my Sony Handycam MiniDV camcorder. Therefore, I don't have much photos of my time in Tokyo.
Below are some of the sites that I visited that I managed to take some photos. Tokyo was a city that exceeded my expectations and will be planning on coming back soon.
5 Chome-15-8 Shinjuku,
Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0022
Excellent location.
Tiny, but cosy.
(I spent all of the day out, so it fitted my purpose of using it just for sleeping)
新宿区
This was the district where I stayed during my time in Tokyo. With large entertainment and shopping areas, it's a lively, busy area to explore.
東京都庁舎
2-8-1 Nishishinjuku, Shinjuku, Tokyo
The building was designed by Kenzo Tange and finished in December 1990. It is located in the “skyscraper district“ within Shinjuku. There are observation decks on the top floors, but I did not get a chance to go up.
秋葉原
This area is famous for its electronic shops and the Anime and Manga culture. It is considered to be the epicenter of Japanese popular culture.
渋谷
One of the main hubs in Tokyo, it is filled with trendy shops and many restaurants. This district also has the famous street crossing, called “Shibuya crossing“ infront of the Shibuya Station.
Tokyo is the largest metropolitan city in the world, with over 36 million people.
金龍山浅草寺
This buddhist temple in Asakusa district is a famous attraction in Tokyo. It offers a traditional view of Tokyo, from the hyper modern side that is prevalent everywhere.
お台場
I visited this artificial island in Tokyo Bay, because I wanted to ride the train over Rainbow Bridge (レインボーブリッジ). Some interesting architecture can be seen here, along with a large shopping mall. But the train ride was the highlight for me.
東京ドーム
皇居
