MONUMENT VALLEY

April 2016 • Canon 60D camera

There was something quite outworldly at Monument Valley. The Navojo name Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, roughly translates as ‘valley of rocks’. Standing between the borders of Utah and Arizona, the giant sandstone rock formations looked like they were carved by giant creatures. Like the Grand Canyon, the weather and time of day will play a part in how interesting this place looks.

You can self-drive through Monument Valley. A 17 mile driving trail loop has 11 stops to visit the popular monument valley formations. Some are big and large, others are tall and thin. The icon photos you see of this place are of the trio of buttes: the East Mitten Butte, the West Mitten Butte, and the Merrick Butte.
